The languages of the Baltic region are Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian. Since the countries of this region declared independence from the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, they abandoned centrally planned economies for market economies.  The region has enjoyed high growth rates after joining the EU, leading to the notion of “Baltic Tigers.”

Lithuania has the largest economy among the three Baltic States. Lithuania belongs to the group of very high human development countries.

It enjoyed high growth rates after joining the European Union.

Latvia is ranked the 21st in the world by the “Ease of Doing Business Index,” making it a great place to do business and is a member of the EU.  Due to its geographical location, transit services are highly developed, along with timber and wood-processing, agriculture and food products, and manufacturing of machinery and electronic devices.

Estonia is a member of the EU (since 2004) and the euro zone since 2011. It has a market-based economy and boasts one of the higher per capita income levels in Central Europe and the Baltic region. Estonia’s economy is characterized by free market, pro-business policies, with a balanced budget and low debt. Like neighboring Latvia and Lithuania, Estonia has a highly skilled workforce.

English fluency in the region is on the rise, but it remains essential to translate product and service marketing and technical information into the three Baltic languages. Given the ease with which you can do business here, it can be well worth the investment.
